The Institute of Medical Science (IMS) of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will soon become an institute like AIIMS. The government is moving forward on the proposal to upgrade facilities in IMS. It is estimated to cost Rs 616 crore. A senior official of the Policy Commission gave this information. The official said that the government wants to improve the functioning of IMS and wants to give it more functional and financial autonomy.
The officer said, “The center wants to develop IMS BHU like an institute like AIIMS center, for this, to increase the number of beds in the institute and to provide Super Specialty Health Facilities, 2018-19 and 2019-20 total amount of Rs 616 crore Will invest.”
To make IMS-BHU advanced like AIIMS, the agreement was signed between Uttar Pradesh Government, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on August 4, 2018. IMS will be the first super specialty hospital, which will be governed by the BHU Act, not under the AIIMS Act. It will work to provide better medical facilities for Varanasi and its surrounding districts.
